Ryan gives John some marshmallows, and John thinks about how they would go camping with Ryan’sRyan's dad. John talks about how he was kicked out of the academy, and lets Ryan know that he didn’tdidn't quit. Ryan tries to tell John to take responsibility for his downfalls, but John has had unfortunate circumstances. “InJohn real life you lose a little, andsays that makes you wonder if you deserve to lose.” John talks about when Jen left is when he really knew he was hopeless. John believes that he killed Jen, and that he drove her away. Ryan tells John that he doesn’tdoesn't blame him for what happened to Jen. Both men loved the same womenwoman, but overall Jen chose John. Ryan refers to them defeating Ulric as John’sJohn's escape from the avalanche of his life.

John tells the groups he’she's been traveling with that in his world they use lightning for light, and then he drewdraws a room with light, a microwave, a fridge, a skyscraper, and Seattle's skyline with the space needle, etc. They figure out from these pictures that there are hundreds of other people like John living in his world. They referredrefer to this as peaceful, because so many people are living together but aren’taren't fighting. “To live without killing, that is a strong society” - Ealston John thinks about how this dimension is cruel, and harsh. He thinksconsiders how muchbad it suckedis without medicine. John wantedwants to bring his new friends technology so they can live better lives. Such as vaccines and antibiotics. His new friends are confused why he left thisthe other world to come live in their world to help save them from the bad people hunting them. Ealston names his ax Rowena after his wife, because he likes his wife and he likes his ax. John recognizes that his relationship with Jen was always tense, and they fought a lot. He knows that Ryan would’vewould've been the better man for Jen. His relationship that’sthat's growing with Sefawynn is a much calmer friendship. Ulric took away John’sJohn's powers. Ealston lets John know to not be ashamed of his joy. Sefawynn and John are very close together, and yet John knows he should leave because he believes he’she's destroying their world.

Ryan askedasks John if he can be relied on. John lets Ryan know that he cares about this place, and he won’twon't let them down. They hug, and the fight begins.

John tries to convince Quinn that he’she's been captured. Quinn doesn’tdoesn't want to be captured by someone like John and thinks it’sit's embarrassing. Sefawynn lets John know that the HordamaenHordamen have arrived to the fight.

There wereare hundreds of Hordamen. John figures out that Ryan is in danger because of his Beacon.beacon, which Ulric is planning on using Ryan’s beacon. Sefawynn letstells John know that she doesn’tdoesn't believe they can stop the Hordamen. Ealstan lets John know that he will follow him until the end. The friendships that John have made really are apparent within this chapter as they face their obvious demise. Ryan has beenis captured, and Ulric has Ryan’sRyan's beacon. Jen was supposedly Ryan’sRyan's inside man. She’sShe's alive.

Jen and Ryan have been working together all along. They pretended that Jen was dead and essentially were together all of John and Jen’sJen's relationship. John figures this out in front of Ealstan, who whoseis really confused that John considered these people his friends. He doesn’tdoesn't have anymoreany more feelings for Jen. Jen and Ryan, and Marta go into a portal to escape., But,but John turns the switch and stays in this dimension. He waswants to defeat Ulric. When he goes outside, he sees Sefawynn standing in the middle of the battle.

Sefawynn seems to have called the wights of the city towards defying Woden. Thokk is John's wight, but she tells John she isn’tisn't a wight after all. Woden hates losing, and Thokk reveals she’sshe's the sister of Woden whosewho is the mother of monsters, the goddess of lognaLogna. Thokk explains that she can’tcan't stop Ulric, and John tells her that he can defeat Ulric. Quinn and John fightingfight next to the portal in a boxing match.

Quinn and John are fighting pretty badly. Breaking the machine causedcauses certain repercussions of changes. John throws Quinn into the portal. John then stomps on the machine and breaks it. Ulric then shoots John, but the beacon wasis in his hand and he squeezes it and it cutsto offdestroy Ulric’s headit. Ealstan defeatingdefeats the other soldiers inwho had gone outside to deal with him, and he arrives at the roomdoor in time to shoot Ulric and kill him.
