== Chapter 1 ==
[[Stephen Leeds]] meets with an interviewer named [[Jenny Zhang]], who makes him uncomfortable with her inside knowledge of his aspects. [[J.C.]] leaves because he is uncomfortable acknowledging that he is imaginary, and the interview is cut off suddenly as a text from [[Sandra]], the long-lost woman who helped Stephen control his [[aspects]], appears on his phone saying nothing but “HELP.”

== Chapter 2 ==
Stephen immediately leaves and [[Wilson]] drives them home without J.C. as Stephen confirms that it is really Sandra. Further texts from her include a cipher and a clue to the key. Upon entering the [[Stephen Leeds' mansion|mansion]], Stephen finds his aspects excitedly talking about Sandra, and he goes to find [[Arnaud]]; who has fixed the [[Razon's camera|time camera]]. Stephen goes to talk to [[Armando]], but finds Armando’s room destroyed and blood on the walls.

== Chapter 3 ==
Armando's room has been torn apart, with gouges in the plaster, bedding shredded, photographs torn on the floor. Stephen can feel Armando’s reservoir of knowledge leaking away. His aspects attempt to comfort him. Jenny shows up, and upon asking Wilson if he can see Jenny, Stephen realizes that Jenny is actually an aspect. Wilson tells Stephen that he is retiring and [[Barb]] will be replacing him. He then invites Stephen to his birthday/retirement party.

== Chapter 4 ==
Stephen goes into the game room to speak to his aspects and finds that [[Audrey]] has cracked the cipher Sandra gave Stephen, telling Stephen where to meet her. Stephen gathers [[Ngozi]], [[Tobias]], [[Ivy]] and Audrey and tells J.C. to meet them at the fairgrounds. 

== Chapter 5 ==
They head to the fairgrounds that correspond to the decoded GPS location, where a [[wikipedia:Da Shuhua|Da Shuhua]] performance is taking place. Stephen has Barb use the time camera to confirm that Sandra was there. Reviewing the photos, Stephen notices a man buying hot dogs in multiple hours in a row who is still there at the fairground. At the drop point indicated by the cipher, Stephen finds a phone. He confronts the hot dog stand owner, who makes sure he stays in the fairground with the phone. A call comes through, and on the other end of the line is Sandra.

== Chapter 6 ==
Sandra tells Stephen her aspects are gone and that she needs him to come with the two men, who can help him--the older man, the hot dog customer, is introduced as [[Kyle]]. Stephen tells Kyle that he will not go with him and that he will come and free Sandra from them. A sudden chill prompts him to look around, and Stephen sees Armando just as Armando attacks, cutting down Tobias. 

== Chapter 7 ==
Stephen is wounded by Armando and runs, and as Armando is about to kill him, J.C. shows up and shoots Armando in the head. Stephen feels Tobias die, and in mourning, they flee the scene.

== Chapter 8 ==
[[Kalyani]] calls Stephen and, over videoconference, the team does some research on Kyle, who appears to be the owner of a prison company ([[Wode|Walters and Ostman Detention Enterprises]]) that has just bought a gaming company. Jenny questions the other aspects about Tobias. Stephen decides to break into the locally-based Walters and Ostman headquarters.

== Chapter 9 ==
Outside the warehouse, J.C. tells Stephen that he should assemble a team of experts for the job, but Stephen declines, preferring to go in now. After turning Barb away, Stephen and the remainder of the team call [[Chin]] and devise a plan of attack. 

== Chapter 10 ==
Stephen and the team infiltrate past some security cameras, but while in the midst of distracting guards, everything flashes white and they appear in a warehouse. Kyle welcomes them to the “future of human incarceration.” 

== Chapter 11 ==
Kyle then proceeds to explain that the technology Stephen just experienced, the [[holodeck]], a new kind of completely immersive VR without any goggles or gloves, will be used in his prisons to contain prisoners, due to it being much less expensive than traditional methods and much more satisfactory. He reveals that Sandra approached them asking for help, then told them to come to Stephen to complete their data--and that she is now free of her aspects. Stephen still refuses to be part of their experiment and tries to leave, but they capture him and his aspects in a VR deserted island.

== Chapter 12 ==
[[Lua]] appears, and noting that the simulation is just a small space, builds a raft to break out of the VR area. Kyle and the team are very annoyed that his aspects allowed him to break the simulation rather than helping him follow the "quest lines", and they throw Stephen and the aspects into a casino where a mob attacks, killing J.C. and Ivy.

== Chapter 13 ==
Extremely distraught, the virtual world appears to fade to Stephen’s eyes, and he can hear the employees and Kyle talking. Stephen moves to a computer and Chin, speaking directly to Stephen's ear, helps him put it in ‘debugging mode’ and bring Kyle and the other employees into the virtual reality simulation world with him. Kyle flees into a bathroom, and Stephen picks guns up off dead mobsters to frighten Kyle with. After inflicting a simulated bullet wound on Kyle, Stephen removes himself from the simulation. He receives a cryptic goodbye text from Kalyani and realizes that his aspects have started to become nightmares and attack each other. He walks into Sandra’s cell, and puts himself into her VR world.

== Chapter 14 ==
Sandra is sitting at the end of the pier, her aspects’ dead bodies floating in the water below. She tells him to leave his dead aspects behind and stay safe in a virtual reality world, but Stephen leaves promising to find a way to fix everything. Stephen tells Kyle that he can study him when he comes to visit Sandra, but to leave him alone other than that. As he leaves, he sees Jenny for a second before she disappears.

Barb, Wilson’s niece, drives him to the spot where he first met Jenny; and he uses the time camera to produce an image of him, J.C., Ivy, and Tobias. Barb only sees Stephen by himself, and Stephen realizes that they are still in his brain somewhere, if only he can figure out how to access them. Barb then drives Stephen to Wilson’s 70th birthday party. 

== Epilouge ==
He stays in Wilson’s guest room instead of returning to the mansion that night, and Jenny shows him that she has been taking notes on all the aspects. She prompts him to write their stories as well, and at the conclusion, he begins to be able to feel (but cannot see) Tobias’s hand on his shoulder. Tobias' voice urges him to write about future adventures the aspects might have.
