Kenton is a half-Darksider, half-Lossandin sand master from Lossand on the Dayside of Taldain. Kenton is the acting leader of the sand masters and a member of the Taishin, holding the title of acting Lord Mastrell.

Appearance and Personality

Kenton has golden blonde hair and a slightly tan to brown complexion, as a result of his half-Darksider heritage. Kenton's eyes are naturally blue. However, when he uses the full might of his sand mastery powers, his eyes glow with a golden light and his pupils seem to contract or disappear, leaving only the white of his irises.

Kenton has lived much of his life challenging authority. He has done it so often that he sometimes instinctively challenges others for the sole purpose of challenging authority, without a greater goal in mind.

History

Early Life

Kenton is the youngest son of Lord Mastrell Praxton. Despite having little talent in sand mastery, he insists on joining the Diem, based on the legal technicality that he possesses just barely enough power to move sand.[2]

Acolent

As an acolent, Kenton refuses advancement to the lowest rank of underfen four times, since accepting would mean being relegated to that rank permanently. Instead, he insists on running the Mastrell's Path to prove that he could do anything a Mastrell could do. While undertaking the Path, he kills the final guardian—something thought impossible—destroying the Path forever.[2]

Though his father is furious and once again offers Kenton the rank of underfen, his father is forced to grant him the title of mastrell after Kenton's feat during the Path.[3]

Battle Against Kerztians

During the advancement ceremony for all of acolents, a group of Kertzians launch a surprise attack on the ceremony. The Kertzians kill virtually everyone, leading Kenton to believe that he is the only survivor.[4] He is found hurt and dehydrated by Khriss and her party. After they revive him with water, Kenton agrees to be their guide and accompanies them to the city of Kezare. There, he learns that there are other survivors of the attack.[5]

He becomes the acting Lord Mastrell since he is the only person holding the title of mastrell.[1]

Attributes and Abilities

Sand Mastery

Since childhood, Kenton has been an extremely weak sand master, only being able to control one ribbon of sand.[2] He loses his ability, possibly as a result of a power weakening drug,[4] but later regains them, and is more powerful.[5]

Sword Fighting

Kenton is skilled with a sword, his weakness with sand leading him to train with the Tower's guards.[2]
