Windrunning was a form of Surgebinding on Roshar used primarily by the Windrunners, an Order of the Knights Radiant.

The Windrunners were Surgebinders who used the two Surges of Gravitation and Atmospheric Pressure and they absorb stormlight from gems by inhalation. The combination of these two Surges resulted in the three Lashings. These powers were gained by bonding with an honorspren however there may be other ways to gain these abilities as with Szeth. The glow of the Windrunners Shardplate was blue. Kaladin displayed the ability to ride the Highstorms, it is unknown if this was an ability of all of the Knights Radiant, the Windrunners of if this is an unrelated ability specific to Kaladin.

I will protect those who cannot protect themselves.

—The Second Ideal of the Windrunners

Known Windrunners

Kaladin is in the process of becoming a Windrunner[1].

Szeth has the powers of a Windrunner, but is not a Windrunner himself[2].
