Old Chapps is a fisherman in Hallandren.[1]
He does his fishing during the nights since fishermen have to pay taxes when fishing during the day. He is occasionally hired by slumlords in the city to weigh down bodies and drop them in the bay.[1] In his youth he sold out his mother out of desire for her apartment, framing her for a theft. After she died in prison, he tied rocks to her feet and left her body in the bay.Template:Annotation ref
Eventually his fishing net catches something heavy and, when trying to pull it up, he hears a voice telling him where he has to paddle to get this thing. When he put it out of the water he finds a sword, Nightblood. Nightblood tells Old Chapps to take him to the shore, where Vivenna later finds him.[1][2]
