He used to do his fishing during the nights since fishermen had to pay taxes when fishing during the day.
Eventually his fishing net caught something heavy and when trying to pull it up, he heard a voice telling him where he had to paddle to get this thing. When he put it out of the water he found a sword, Nightblood. Nightblood told Old Chapps to take him to the shore, where Vivenna later found him.
