I am Eric Culver.

I came to like Brandon Sanderson around the time that Oathbringer was coming out.

The big overarching storyline of the Cosmere seems so clear to me:

  1. Pre-Shattering: Probably only going to see this age in Dragonsteel.
  2. Initial Investiture: The Shards go to various systems and Invest the worlds there. We may see this in Dragonsteel. We also see it in White Sands and Warbreaker.
  3. Fallout from Odium: Stories involving a small group of people, or at most one world, interacting with and dealing with the Investiture of the Shard or Shards on that world. Shard conflicts, if present, involve Odium and/or at most two other Shards. Most of these stories are on worlds Odium has visited and Shattered that world's Shard(s), or at least injured a Shard in that area. All of the stories so far fall in this age, except those already mentioned, Era 2 of Mistborn, and Sixth of the Dusk, which take place in the next age. I think that Stormlight 4 and 5 will also take place in this age, and Stormlight 5 will end with Odium being contained, or Shattered. Stormlight 6-10 I think will fall in the next age.
  4. Autonomy versus the Universe: In this age, a larger threat than Odium will become apparent: Autonomy. Autonomy in the last age has been growing in power by creating avatars. With each avatar, Autonomy's ability to comprehend and control the infinite power they hold increases, and so they have become the most powerful Shard in the Cosmere. Mistborn Eras 2 and 3 will show the first attempts of Autonomy, or Trell, to take control of Scadrial. Stormlight 6-10 will show the first attempts of Autonomy to take control of Roshar. These attacks will bring Autonomy to the attention of the Shards on those worlds, and so they will start a multiple Shard alliance against Autonomy. Sixth of the Dusk is the beginnings of this battle from the perspective of a world Invested by Autonomy. Mistborn Era 4, and possibly Dragonsteel, will focus on this Cosmere-spanning conflict.
