The Most Boring Book Ever is a children's picture book by Brandon Sanderson and Kazu Kibuishi. The title refers to the book's "boring" text, which is humorously contrasted with exciting pictures to accompany it. It was published by Roaring Brook Press, a children's imprint of Macmillan Publishers, on September 24, 2024.[1]
Development[edit]
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Brandon found himself reading more picture books with his kids, notably Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus! and The Book With No Pictures. These books (and one of his favorite picture books as a kid, The Monster at the End of This Book) each have elements that directly interact with the reader. Brandon's general love of this genre inspired him to create The Most Boring Book Ever. Brandon and his family were fans of Kazu Kibuishi through his Amulet series of epic fantasy graphic novels, and they were excited when he agreed to join the project.[1][2] Brandon believes that a wide age range of kids will enjoy the book's concept.[2]
Future[edit]
Brandon believes that the experience of publishing The Most Boring Book Ever will help him realize his ambitions of creating cosmere picture books based on in-world stories such as "The Girl Who Looked Up" and "The Dog and the Dragon". The cosmere stories would presumably involve Hoid.[1][3]
