Spark is an ashspren who is bonded to Malata [1]. She is part of Diagram organization.[2]

Appearance and Personality

Spark likes to break things; like other ashspren, she wants to know what is inside. Shallan could see no sign of Spark when meeting Malata, nor has there been any information given concerning her appearance.[1]

Spark blames the Radiants and the devotion to Honor for the killing of hundreds of ashspren and is seeking vengeance.[2]

She doesn’t like the term Dustbringer, which is used to define the Radiant order that bonded to ashspren.[3]

History

According to The Diagram, Dustbringers would be the Radiants most likely to accept their cause. Taravangian located in their lesser ranks Malata, who was able to bond Spark. With that, they were both suddenly thrust into its upper echelons. [4]

Spark and Malata don’t acknowledge that they are Taravangian’s followers, but being with him is convenient to get to see Urithiru, which caused Spark's curiosity. [1]

Once at Urithiru, they seem to be working with Dalinar and the coalition as Spark is used to open the Oathgates more and more often.[2] However, in secret, Spark has been spying on Dalinar and was responsible for finding out about other visions that Dalinar hadn’t shared with everyone. This was key for the treason led by Taravangian to break the coalition. [2]

Malata reassured Taravangian about her spren's intent, stating that Spark is game for whatever it takes to get vengeance (and what lets her break stuff). [2]

They didn’t participate in the Battle of Thaylen; the Diagram society was responsible for bringing the Singers into Urithiru. It is unknown if they used Spark to do so. [5]

Abilities

Surgebinding

The Surge she uses, Division, caused objects to degrade, burn, or turn to dust.[2]

Relationships

Malata

Spark bonded with Malata. Their relationship is not very well known, though it is clear Malata understands Spark´s pain and resentment towards the Radiants. They seem to work well together, Malata going to Urithiru on her advice and Spark spying on the Kholins at her request to assist the Diagram organization.[2] So far, Malata is the only human to see Spark in the Physical realm.

Quotes

Never mind what the Radiants did to Spark’s friends, never mind that organized devotion to Honor is what killed hundreds of ashspren in the first place.

Trivia

Dustbringers are really complicated. Really complicated. [6]
