Saltstone is a type of rock found on Lumar. It is black, crumbles easily, and gets into everything. Plants cannot grow on Saltstone, and it taints soil in contact with it, killing even potted plants over time. It also makes food and drink taste different, giving it all a salty flavor.[1]
The island of Diggen's Point is made entirely of Saltstone, and operates an essential mine to extract salt from the rock. It is a highly sought after commodity, being one of the only two things that can render aether spores inert the other item being silver, and is one the primary exports of the island. The mine itself is somewhat dangerous having caused injury before.[2][3]
The saltstone of the island is powerful enough to kill aether spores floating above it, thus keeping the inhabitants and visitors of Diggen's Point safe.[1]
