Nightmaw are a form of bird-like predator on Patji.[1] One of the creatures that attacks Dusk and Vathi is described as being "as tall as a tree if it had stood upright." Nightmaws have two clawed forelegs and a razor-sharp beak.

Their cognitive parasite gives them the ability to detect and track cognitive activity.
