Mellis is a Daysider who lives in Kezare, the capital of Lossand on Taldain.[1] He is the husband of Ais, who is a trackt, and the father of Melloni.[2]
Appearance and Personality
Mellis has brown hair and tan skin. He is of average height, with an athletic build.[2] He wears a short sleeved shirt, a scarf, wrist cuffs, trousers, and boots.[2] He seems to support Ais in her work as a trackt, but is nervous about the danger it creates for their family.[2][1] Mellis's appearance and faith indicate that he, like Ais, is ethnically Kerztian.[3][1]
History
Mellis lived in Lossand with Ais and Melloni.[2] He took care of the household due to Ais's long, irregular hours, performing tasks such as cooking meals and caring for Melloni.[2][1]
After Ais apprehended Lokmlen, she returned home and was greeted by Mellis and Melloni. After Melloni went to bed, Ais told Mellis that Jedan had been killed during the pursuit.[2] Mellis was empathetic, but he also showed Ais a note threatening her family that was left at their home.[2] Ais believed the note to be an idle threat from Sharezan, but Mellis was worried.[2]
Ais became increasingly conflicted about her assignment as a bodyguard for Kenton[4][3] and found herself in highly dangerous situations. At the same time, she came to believe that Sharezan was more powerful than she first thought, and she became worried about her family's safety.[1] She told Mellis to take Melloni to an undisclosed location south of Kezare to seek sanctuary until Sharezan was caught.[1] Mellis was hesitant since that meant the family might not be together for months, but Ais insisted.[1]
Trivia
- In the unpublished prose version of White Sand, Ais was male, and Mellis was his wife.
