He had two young children, and was having an affair with a fellow guard. He secretly wished that he was carpenter, like his father. He also liked to act less intelligent than he really was, in order to win card games.

Hurli was tricked by Shai into believing that the Bloodsealer was collecting nails, hair, and personal items belonging to him and the other guards in order to take over their bodies and kidnap someone. Hurli and Yil then went and roughed the Bloodsealer up a bit, which resulted in him drinking too much and being too late to renew the stamp imprisoning Shai.
