Granny Hilde is known to take coin and not ask questions - even if she does grumble at you a bit.

Ham about Granny Hilde's reputation.[1]

Granny Hilde is the operator of a passwall in Luthadel on Scadrial.[1]

Appearance and PersonalityEdit

Granny Hilde is a small, elderly woman, who is nearly blind and uses a cane to walk. She has surprisingly dexterous fingers for her age to count coins with. The grizzled woman implies that she has many grandsons.[1]

In the underground, people know her to just take coin and not ask questions, although she can grumble a bit.[1]

PasswallEdit

Her passwall is located within a few minutes' ride from Keep Venture. The tunnel is half burrowed and half cut from the wall's stones themselves, and large enough to lead a horse through. A couple of burly men are needed to open and close the false stone wall on the outside.[1]

HistoryEdit

She used to give Ham sweets when he was a child, which was actually a quiet but well-targeted way of getting publicity for her passwall, since Ham was already involved in the underground by then. As a result, Ham became quite fond of her.[1] He later used her passwall to sneak his wife Mardra and their children in and out of the city when they came to visit him.[1]

During the Siege of Luthadel, Felt informed Elend that passwall keepers such as Hilde were letting people out of Luthadel, mostly at night, defying Elend's orders.[1]

When Elend wanted to visit Jastes Lekal in his koloss army, Ham led him through Granny Hilde's passwall. Elend paid her three clips extra to post someone who could watch for his return; Hilde said she could probably fetch one of her grandsons for this task.[1]
