Desolations were events in the history of Roshar. Few is known about them except legends. Still those agree on some points.

It was the duty of the Knights Radiant to stay vigilant and prepare for Desolations and fight the Voidbringers when it arrived.Cite error: Invalid <ref> tag; refs with no name must have content

According to Vorinism, mankind fought the Voidbringers during Desolations 99 times, before mankind finally won and drove them back to the Tranquiline Halls.Cite error: Invalid <ref> tag; refs with no name must have content That victory was later referred to as the Last Desolation.

Actually, at the end of what was called the Last Desolation, nine out of ten Heralds abandoned the Oathpact. This led to a very long period of about 4500 years without a Desolation.
