Demoux was originally a captain in Kelsier's rebellion and a general in Elend's army after the Siege of Luthadel. He later becomes a worldhopper, travelling to Roshar in search of Hoid. He has light tan skin, and a distinctive scar across his scalp.[2]

History

The Skaa Rebellion

Demoux is a loyal man to Kelsier and a terrific leader. Amongst the first recruits of Kelsier's rebellion, Ham quickly promotes him to the rank of captain after he (Ham) assumes leadership in light of Kelsier's absence.

When Kelsier came to inspect the caves it was Demoux who led him around. Answering Kelsier's call for a man who will defend the honor of the rebellion Demoux immediately stepped forward as one of several, being singled out by Kelsier to fight the dissenter Bilg.

Before the fight, Hammond confides to Kelsier that while Demoux's fighting abilities are not great, he is a trustworthy man but he is no match for Bilg in a fair fight. Assisted by Kelsier's Allomancy, Demoux wins the fight and Kelsier seizes the moment to invigorate his troops by proclaiming that Demoux had the arcane arts the Lord Ruler possessed, that they all might possess. Though Kelsier attempts to kill Bilg through Demoux, Demoux resists, and Kelsier soon changes his mind, allowing Bilg to live.

In truth, Kelsier had just guided Demoux's sword with Allomantic Pushes and Pulls.[3]

When Yeden decided to attack a fortified position, others stayed back at the cave believing this was not Kelsier's wish. Demoux was their leader. Here he demonstrated a sharp contrast to Yeden's impulsive nature by being patient and prudent.

The Siege of Luthadel

Demoux is suspect to the investigation of an imposter conducted by Vin. Believing he is a kandra disguised as Demoux, she follows him through the streets of Luthadel when he sneaks out of Keep Venture. Demoux is revealed to be a preacher for the Church of the Survivor.[4]

The New Empire

Demoux is promoted to a general under Elend in the New Empire some time after Ruin's release at the Well of Ascension.

When he ventures into the mists for the first time, he is stricken down by them, becoming one of the mistfallen. [4]

The mistfallen are sorted into their own company due to the superstition and hatred directed towards them by the other soldiers, resulting in a brawl where a named Bilg punches the general and is executed for it.[5]

Demoux and his troops arrive at the Pits of Hathsin where the Terris survivors have settled. They restore order and lend organization to the Terris people who had been flooded with refugees. Demoux and his soldiers maintained law and order and essentially took command, though he showed a respect for the Terris elders; he became romantically involved with Aslydin, the daughter of one of the elders: she fell in love with him for his honor and respectability.Template:Annotation ref

When Elend arrives, he discovers that the mistfallen had not been stricken down by the mists for nothing - they had been Snapped, awakening the Allomantic powers of a Seer (an atium misting) in all of them, including Demoux. Demoux and his men then charged the incoming koloss forces with Elend, fighting with the power and determination of an army of Allomancers ablaze with atium. Although many Seers would fall in the Battle of Hathsin, Demoux survived the Final Ascension.Template:Annotation ref

Search for Hoid

Demoux is searching for Hoid in the Purelake region on Roshar, in the company of Galladon and Baon.[6][2] Ishikk refers to him as Thinker for his contemplative and reserved manner, and notes that he speaks the Selay language more poorly than his associates. When his companions begin to argue, he notices Ishikk listening in and directs the others to move their discussion to another language.[2]

Trivia

Demoux was named for a personal friend of Brandon Sanderson's, Micah DeMoux, who also took the photographs of Brandon for the book jackets. Brandon promised him that the character would survive and get a girl.Template:Annotation ref
