Dedelin is the king of Idris on Nalthis.[2]
Appearance and Personality
Described as old [3] Dedelin wear simple oustere clothes despite being King of Idris. He has the Royal Locks keeping his hair black usually though showing enough lack of control to allow the red of anger and the white of fear tinge them at times. [2]
He is an astute ruler and capable of putting the good of his kingdom before his own personal wishes as shown by his sending his daughter to honour the treaty with Hallandren. He is also shown to be thoughtful and decisive as he ponders over the political and military implications and seeks council, but once his mind is made up he acts decisively and cannot be persuaded to renege on his position. However he is also a man of passion, controlled passion, but passion nonetheless as seen in his streaks of red anger and the way he allows his love of Vivenna to dictate his response to the treaty.[2]
He worships Austre, God of Colours and considers the God King and the other Returned abominations. In accordance with these beliefs he considers the owning of Breath other than your own and Awakening wrong.[2]
History
More than twenty years before the events of Warbreaker Dedelin made a treaty with the Hallandren Court to keep it from invading Idris. This treaty says that he must send his daughter to marry the God King of Hallandren when Vivenna reaches her twenty-second birthday. But although she is raised, educated and trained for this purpose he can not bring himself to let her go and decides to send Siri instead.[2]
Prior to the events of Warbreaker, Dedelin sent Lemex to T'Telir as his spymaster. He also agreed to Lemex purchasing Breath in order to further his role as an information source.[4]
Relationships
His children are Vivenna, Ridger, Fafen, and Siri.
His chief friend and military adviser is General Yarda.
