The Chasm is a major geographical feature of the planet Sel.
Caused by an earthquake, it played a significant role in causing the Reod and disrupted the magical system of AonDor.
The chasm is unlikely to have been caused by Odium's visit to Sel. The Reod occurred about ten years before Elantris, while Odium's visit came far earlier then that (at least several centuries, as Seons did not exist before Odium appeared).[1] However, the chasm did not occur naturally.[2]
