Chanarach (Alethi pronounciation: [ˈt͡ʃænəɹæt͡ʃ] CHA-na-rach), also known as Chana (Alethi pronounciation: [ˈt͡ʃænə] CHA-na) is one of the ten Heralds of the Almighty on Roshar. She is associated with the number chach, the essence Spark, and the divine attributes of Brave and Obedient. She is the patron of the Order of Dustbringers. Vorinism calls her Chanaranach.

She had a temple dedicated to her in Stormseat. It faced leeward and was supposedly shaded.

Appearance and Personality

Chanarach appears to have been a young woman when she became a herald.

History

At some point in the past, she met with The Almighty and agreed to act as one of his Heralds in the Oathpact. At Aharietiam she abandoned her oath along with eight other Heralds, leaving her Honorblade in the ground at the location of the final battle and departing for parts unknown.

It is not known how she has spent her time after but it is highly likely that she is still alive, as it has been confirmed that at least three other Heralds have survived this long.

She has been seen by at least one other character in the first two Stormlight Archive books.

Abilities

Chanarach is likely a capable swordswoman and Surgebinder, having survived Aharietiam. In the story told to Kaladin about Fleet, it is mentioned that he had won a foot race against Chana at some point, and this was used to indicate his incredible speed. This makes it likely that she was known for her speed.

It is likely that she is unable to age like the other Heralds, thus granting a functional immortality of sorts.

Surgebinding

As the Herald associated with the Releasers it is likely that she could bind the surges of division and abrasion.
