“You have accused me of arrogance in my quest. You have accused me of perpetuating my grudge against Rayse and Bavadin. Both accusations are true. ”
—Hoid in The Letter
Bavadin is the original Vessel of the Shard of Autonomy.[1][2]
Bavadin is located on Taldain, the planet of White Sand.[3]. She is the only Shard there,[4] but she uses various personas to appear to people as different gods and goddesses.[5][6][7]
Khriss writes that Bavadin supports a policy of strict isolationism for Taldain (to the detriment of Taldaini expatriates), while simultaneously being willing to meddle in the affairs of other worlds.[8] Khriss also identifies Bavadin using female pronouns, though Bavadin takes many different personas on Taldain.[5]
Bavadin and Rayse
Hoid, in the Letter holds a grudge against both Bavadin and Rayse for unknown, but similar,[9] reasons. It is speculated that Bavadin and Rayse are partners, though nothing is confirmed. She was apparently of help to him in Splintering the Shards of Dominion and Devotion,[10] but the extent of this assistance and whether it was voluntary is not yet known.
