Where his fortune fell within the Arelon system is unknown, but was no higher than fourth.[5] He shared a friendly rivalry with Duke Roial and was constantly trying to either outdo or oppose him.[1][4] In fact Ahan Joined Raoden's group thinking he would oppose Roial and was Shocked to see Roial was a Member. Things took a turn for the unexpected when Roial was killed for treason.[3] Ahan never recovered from the guilt of his betrayal. He lost much of his weight and thereafter only spoke in a dazed, sickly voice.[8]
