Words of Radiance[edit]

Hi, I was wondering why we are creating separate pages for the chapter summaries. I don't think we've done that for the other books. Hadhad (talk) 11:44, 7 March 2016 (MST)

It is a side project of mine that has unfortunately been on the back-burner for quite some time. Mostly because I wanted to spend a reasonable amount on time on each chapter and trying to get them as complete as possible before moving on the next one. What I did not want was just a copy/paste of what was on summary page (as that serves little purpose). They also should not have the {{stormlight}} and {{partial}} as that messes with the site statistics. Sorry Figberts, this is my fault as I never got around to writing a style guide on how I wanted these written.--WeiryWriter (talk) 16:28, 7 March 2016 (MST)
I get it, the issue is that there is a template {{Words of Radiance Summaries}} that references uncreated pages, which are each chapter of Words of Radiance. The template was on a lot of pages, and the links led nowhere. I wanted to make sure they led to something, just for ease of reference. -- User: Figberts
Hey Figberts, I moved this back to your talk page as that's where the rest of the discussion is.
With regard to the template and the summary pages, at least they're all made now so they can be updated more easily --Joe ST (talk) 00:21, 8 March 2016 (MST)
So are these separate chapter summary pages just for the Stormlight series? -- Hadhad
TBH it's still just an experiment. given the amount of time put into this wiki being probably much less than the amount required to make high-quality per-chapter summary pages for all the books, who knows. --Joe ST (talk) 06:07, 8 March 2016 (MST)
The thing is I was well aware of the redlink situation and it was something I was considered. I still did not want copy/pasted articles from the main summary page. In my mind those redlinks served more of a purpose as a reminder to work on this project than just splitting the main summary page into individual ones as that really adds nothing to the site (as the individual pages were supposed to go into more depth). Regardless this is kind of a moot point now, as even though I do not believe they should have been created, they were and deleting them would be pointless.
And apologies if I'm coming off as rather brusque, this is just a personal project of mine that I was not expecting other people to expand upon at this time.
Also as Joe said, this is still mostly just an experiment just on WoR.--WeiryWriter (talk) 06:29, 8 March 2016 (MST)
I see! Sorry about that.--Figberts (talk) 11:09, 8 March 2016
Okay, my two cents here: it seems like the more pages that are created, the more chances there are for inconsistencies. For example, in the Mistborn series, you could have a certain concept of feruchemy described in a chapter summary, in a book summary, on a character page (who has that power), on the metal's page, on the Metallic Arts page, etc. And with multiple editors, you can have inconsistencies crop up. So from a strategic point of view, it would seem prudent to keep things neat and tight. With that in mind, it seems like it's kind of redundant to have a book summary, a chapter summary, and an individual page for each chapter. But hey, this is your web site, so I'm not trying to dictate or anything. I haven't even read WoR, so maybe these are needed. Hadhad (talk) 17:29, 9 March 2016 (MST)
Inconsistencies are always going to be a concern, but every edit that happens is checked by at least one the admins. Granted they've slipped through before, and I'm sure they will do so again, but they do eventually get resolved. This is partially why not much work on them had been done so far, I wanted to work on making sure each one was up-to-snuff before moving on to the next. And usually I am all for fewer articles, but sometimes fewer doesn't necessarily equate to "neat". My goal for these individual pages is to really dig into each chapter, shining a light on stuff like foreshadowing and easter eggs. And I just think that if all of that was crammed into the single summary page it would get exceedingly cluttered. But to that end I don't think it's redundant at all, rather the three levels would be of differing levels of abstraction. Sometimes you need a very cursory summary, and at other times an in-depth one.--WeiryWriter (talk) 13:57, 11 March 2016 (MST)

Terris Prophecy quotes[edit]

Hey Figberts, would you be able to add citations for the additions you made to the Terris Prophecies article? It would be particularly useful if you could add chapter refs for the quotes but any and all info you can add would be a great help. --Joe ST (talk) 06:03, 16 March 2016 (MDT)

Sure! I'll get them.

For references please use {{book ref|hoa|4}} for example to link to chapter 4 of Hero of Ages. {{epigraph ref}} works similarly for linking to the bits at the top. --Joe ST (talk) 15:23, 17 March 2016 (MDT)
