The Alcatraz finale, possibly entitled "Alcatraz versus the Dark Talent", will be the fifth and final book in the Alcatraz series.[1] Brandon has also referred to it as "Alcatraz versus His Own Stupid Self". It is currently planned for a mid-2016 release, following the Tor re-releases of the first four books.[citation needed]
Behind the Scenes
Brandon always planned for the Alcatraz series to consist of five books, however Scholastic, the original publisher, only bought the first four. For a variety of reasons, including Scholastic being unwilling to make a contract for the fifth book, Brandon bought back the rights in early 2013.[1] He later re-sold the series, including book 5, to Tor.[citation needed]
Following a month of research for The Aztlanian, Brandon spent June 2014 writing the first draft of Alcatraz 5.[2]
