New Empire
World Scadrial

The New Empire followed the Final Empire on Scadrial after the dead of the Lord Ruler and the Collapse.

Foundation

After the Collapse, when Elend Venture was crowned to rule over the Central Dominance, he established the New Empire.

Assembly

Origin

Following his ideas of a fair government Elend created a constitution with the aim to give the skaa a chance to get involved in politics. This parliament was called the Assembly. It consisted of 24 members, including 8 skaa workers, 8 nobles (including the king) and 8 tradesmen.

The Assembly During the Siege of Luthadel

When King Straff Venture brought his army to Luthadel to take over the city from his son Elend, the Assembly evolved to be a threat to Elend's function as king. Regarding the coming winter and the terseness of food and wood/oil to heat the tenements and, before all, the fact that there were only twenty thousand, mostly untrained, troops in the city, the Assembly tended to give the city to Straff. With effort, Elend was able to convince the majority of the Assembly to give him time set up a meeting with his father. Elend was sure, Straff wouldn't attack the city. Then a second army came to Luthadel, headed by another King, Ashweather Cett, making the Assembly even more nervous. Cett made his way into the city and was allowed to take residence in one of the abandoned former Noble's Keeps. Now two armies were besieging Luthadel.

Even when a third army -- an army of twenty thousand Koloss, led by King Jastes Lekal -- arrived, Elend tried to convince the Assembly to stay with diplomatic efforts, avoiding a battle that would be desperate and cost a lot of lives.

When finally a meeting with Straff was arranged, the Assembly scheduled a meeting at the same time, knowing that Elend couldn't participate and -- in his absence -- degraded him, appointing Lord Penrod as new king. Then they decided to accept Straff as their emperor, although he would never get the city.

Members of the Assembly

The Assembly was only twenty-four men, but getting them to agree on anything was almost more challenging than any of the problems they argued about.

The Assembly was abolished after the Siege of Luthadel. Henceforward the New Empire was a monarchy under King Elend Venture and Vin.

Further Events in the New Empire

Up until the year of the Final Ascension, the New Empire gathered an army of over fifty thousand soldiers. The army of the New Empire was known for its well trained warriors. The last year of its existence was affected by battles against Ruin's Koloss armies and natural disasters.

In the course of the time each inner Dominance fell under the reign of the New Empire. However its capital, Luthadel fell victim to revolts and a House War.Cite error: Invalid <ref> tag; refs with no name must have content The survivors escaped from the natural disasters into the cache of Luthadel or into the Pits of Hathsin.

During the Battle of Hathsin, both Elend and Vin died.
