Cytonic is the third book in the Skyward series by Brandon Sanderson. It is the sequel to Starsight.[1]
Development
In a Reddit Q&A leading up to the release of the first book, Brandon stated that the trilogy would likely become a four book series.[2] In his 2018 State of the Sanderson, he stated that due to the amount of time needed to complete Rhythm of War, Skyward 3 "[wouldn't] be written until 2020, for a spring 2021 release."[3] In the 2019 State of the Sanderson, this was updated to writing in late 2020 for a "likely" 2021 release.[4]
At some point in early 2020, Brandon was planning on writing the book with two alternating points of view, Spensa and someone else,[5] but later decided on doing a series of audio novellas to accompany the book's release instead of including the second point-of-view character.[6]
Brandon originally wanted to call the book Nowhere, but the publisher opposed that idea and he ended up deferring to their request.[7][8]
