Skyward 3 is the third book in the Skyward series by Brandon Sanderson. It is the sequel to Starsight. Brandon wanted to call the book Nowhere, though the publisher opposed the idea.[1] He ended up deferring to their request, and a new title has been chosen, but it has yet to be revealed.[2]

Development

In a Reddit Q&A leading up to the release of the first book, Brandon stated that the trilogy would likely become a four book series.[3] In his 2018 State of the Sanderson, he stated that due to the amount of time needed to complete Rhythm of War, Skyward 3 "[wouldn't] be written until 2020, for a spring 2021 release."[4] In the 2019 State of the Sanderson, this was updated to writing in late 2020 for a "likely" 2021 release.[5]

At some point in early 2020, Brandon was planning on writing the book with two alternating points of view, Spensa and someone else,[6] but later decided on doing a series of audio novellas to accompany the book's release instead of including the second point-of-view character.[7]
