The Aredel River flowed through Arelon.[1] It began at Lake Alonoe,[2] ran beneath Elantris,[3][4] and formed a bay near Kae when it joined with the Sea of Fjorden.[5] Occasionally it was diverted to rinse out the sewers of Kae, because their plumbing ceased to function after the Reod[4]

The Aredel River appeared on Aon Eno, the character for water.[6]

Raoden and Karata accessed it via a well inside Elantris, and allowed the current to carry them out of the city.[7]
