The '''skaze''' are [[Splinter]]s of [[Dominion]] that live on [[Sel]].{{au ref|sel}}{{wob ref|4547}} The skaze have many similarities to the [[seon]]s that also live on Sel. Like the seons, they appear as sapient floating spheres of energy that can converse with humans. Unlike the seons, however, the skaze are very rarely seen or discussed in [[Arelon]].

== Appearance and composition ==
While the seons glow with light and have an [[Aon]] at their center, the skaze are described as dark, seeming to suck in the light around them, with indistinct edges that blend into the air.{{book ref|Elantris|part=postscript}} Skaze also have a ring around their sphere with a "pattern of misty symbols".{{book ref|Elantris|part=postscript}} The skaze have some relationship to and may be named after Dominion's [[Vessel]] [[Skai]].{{wob ref|5540}} This is similar to the relationship of seons to [[Devotion]]'s Vessel, [[Aona]].{{wob ref|4679}}

== Disposition ==
Most likely due to Dominion's Intent, the skaze have a thirst for power.{{wob ref|6167}} The skaze are "reliant upon humankind",{{book ref|Elantris|part=postscript}} but it is not known if they have masters like the seons. It is also unknown if the skaze were affected by the [[Reod]].

== History ==
The skaze had a large amount of influence in the politics of [[Fjordell]]{{wob ref|4641}} and had a particularly strong influence on the monks of the [[Dakhor Monastery]].{{wob ref|4640}} [[Dilaf]], the leader of the Dakhor, learned that [[Elantrian]]s were not indestructible from the skaze.{{book ref|Elantris|62}}

[[Hoid]] made some kind of agreement with a group of skaze in which he promised to become an [[Elantrian]].{{book ref|Elantris|part=postscript}} The partnership between them was fairly loose.{{wob ref|8377}} When he discovered that he had failed in his initial attempts, he was in the company of a skaze who displayed a surprising level of emotion and humor, causing him to reflect on the fact that the skaze had a wide range of individual personalities.{{book ref|Elantris|part=postscript}}

Hoid later succeeded at becoming an Elantrian, but it is not known if the skaze are aware of this development or if it has affected their relationship.{{book ref|tress|64}}

== Similarities to spren ==
Skaze have many similarities to the [[spren]] that live on [[Roshar]]. Like spren, skaze can turn into [[Shardblade]]s if they have something to pull them more into the [[Physical Realm]].{{wob ref|6197}} Skaze can also be used to build a [[fabrial]].{{wob ref|12918}}
