What exactly occurred is unknown but it appears that the vast majority of Aimia's ecosystem collapsed, leading to the extinction of the [[lanceryn]]{{ref|b|twok|c|36}} and the near extinction of the [[larkin]]. Most creatures there are quite rare since the scouring.{{ref|17s|2383|post|42116|So, those things on the inside cover of WoK. Crabwasps, or crabdragons?}}

The soldiers used the Atium Cache to fight off the Koloss, making them near-invincible warriors until the cache eventually ran out at which point Elend had achieved his true purpose. Elend and Marsh fought, Elend fuelled by Vin's power and Marsh fuelled by Ruin's power. Although Elend died of his wounds, Ruin's body had been destroyed. Vin, then attacked Ruin directly, destroying both hosts of Ruin and Preservation.
