Pure Atium[edit]

So recently there was an edit on the page that mentioned that any edits to do with the fact that era 1 atium is an atium electrum alloy are to be 'held off.' What exactly is meant by this and what is the reasoning behind it?--Debarra (talk) 22:05, 20 November 2022 (UTC)

Because of how much of an impact a significant retcon like this one could have on the wiki, we are holding off changes until more information is available. We haven't decided when this will be, though personally I would prefer to not introduce the information until it is book canonised so we know exactly what Brandon is actually doing and how he is adapting the works to retro fit the change. I just wanted to note in here that we've decided to go ahead and account for the retcon on the atium page, following additional comments about this by Brandon in the latest spoiler stream and by Peter on Reddit. For now this will probably be in a limited capacity though. --Jofwu (talk) 14:48, 9 December 2022 (UTC)
How convenient this decision was made shortly after I tried to make a draft for the page. But not really satisfied with my draft, so not sure exactly how to set the page up in a way that acknowledges this. Is a change that is rather hard to implement well. Also, another additional piece of info supporting it, is we have a comment from Peter in 2009 on TWG about it, so it has at least been around since then. Likely even before that. --Firesong (Firesong) 20:11, 9 December 2022 (UTC)
We've been working on a short section that mostly just notes that pure atium is a thing as well as its Hemalurgic and Allomantic powers, which I'll probably be putting up on the page soon. We are still looking to keep changes contained to that section for now, since the retcon is still in the fuzzy territory of WoB-only canon, there's a higher risk of accidentally writing something incorrect since Brandon's been fairly light on details so far, and this will potentially have a lot of snowball effects across the wiki. There will come a time where we need to do more than that though, and you're certainly welcome to keep thinking about the subject and working with your draft if it's something you're interested in. I know I've already found your input helpful; I only caught the mention of "pure atium" on the Allomancy table from your user page.

Well I am glad I've been of help to you. But yeah, I noticed for a while that the description of Atium on the Allomancy table didn't line up completely with what we see it do. And the Atium-Electrum explanation answers it perfectly. Given we know Atium-Gold gives a Gold effect on others, so makes sense Atium-Electrum would give the Electrum effect on others. So it does fit with a lot of our understanding, but still is a pretty big change to the page, yeah. Brandon did talk about calling the alloy Atium and the pure form just Pure Atium. But I feel that would be a bit odd for wiki titles, and bound to cause confusion to those not in the loop if we make them separate pages like we do for Malatium. --Firesong (talk_ 20:50, 9 December 2022 (UTC)
I imagine eventually we'll get a proper name for "pure atium" or at least get characters in-world calling it something and we'll make a separate page for it at that point, but yeah for now it seems simplest to cover it all here. --Stargazer (talk) 21:00, 9 December 2022 (UTC)
Yeah, agreed. Not time to separate them yet. Just fix up the page to better clarify it. --Firesong (talk) 21:50, 9 December 2022 (UTC)
